Alexey Finikov

Alexey was born in Novgorod in 1975 and grew up in the city. He studied at secondary school No. 18 and the Novgorod Pedagogical College. In 1997, he graduated from the North-West Academy of Civil Service in St Petersburg (currently, the North-West Institute of Management).

Alexey is an avid collector of maps, 15–19th century graphic pieces, postcards, photographs, documents and printed materials related to the history and culture of Novgorod.

He has assembled a large library of books on the history of Russian cartography and Veliky Novgorod.

In 2017, Alexey began collecting paintings and graphics by contemporary Novgorod artists.

He is a member of the Russian Geographical Society (Novgorod Branch) and the International Map Collectors’ Society (IMCoS).

Collection

Alexey Finikov’s collection includes approximately 200 old maps, plans, prints and lithographs, about 50 publications on Novgorod antiquities released prior to the 1917 revolution, over 700 pre-revolutionary postcards with views of Novgorod and the Novgorod Guberniya, and more than 70 paintings and graphic works by Novgorod artists.

The Novgorod: Maps and Drawings (The Novgorad: Maps and Drawings) exhibition will showcase 53 maps and plans, 28 prints and lithographs, and 14 books and albums.

Some of the works by Novgorod artists were previously displayed at the Novgorod Seasons exhibition in 2018.
